Event Highlights: Future Gardeners of SAMLARC Workshop!

April 13, 2018

On Saturday, April 7th, SAMLARC hosted a Future Gardeners of SAMLARC Workshop for the spring season at the Lago Santa Margarita Beach Club! Kathie Wickham, a California Certified Nursery Professional and SAMLARC resident, led our future gardeners in creating a beautiful spring planter garden for them to take home and enjoy!

Each gardener received a plastic container with holes in the bottom for drainage, brightly colored rocks, soil and three varieties of spring flowers. Kathie provided a helpful tutorial and visited each table to assist the children and adults that were participating. Kathie encouraged each gardener to place their planter in a sunny spot at home and to water it every week.

To make your own spring planter, follow these simple steps!

  1. Take a plastic container with holes in the bottom for water to drain. This will be your planter! The container should be approximately 10” high.

  2. Fill the container about ¾ of the way with fresh soil.

  3. Choose three spring flower plans and brush off excess dirt from each plant. Place the plants in the soil and add additional soil around the plants to keep them securely in place.

  4. Sprinkle a layer of brightly colored rocks on top of the soil of your planter.

  5. Add fertilizer to your soil to help feed your plant! When you are finished, be sure to water your plant regularly so it can grow!

Thank you to everyone who participated in this fun-filled Future Gardeners of SAMLARC Workshop experience! You can view all the photos from this event on our website. Be sure to mark your calendars for a new upcoming spring event, the Mad Hatter Children’s Tea Party!
