The RSM Experience: Small Town Vibes with a Big Community Heart

Each time I walk down one of my favorite streets in RSM, I’m reminded of how much I appreciate living in this hidden gem of a community; Rancho Santa Margarita. I always joke with friends that I don’t want our town to be publicized, because I want it to be kept as our little secret.

What is it about this town that has me so enamored? Where shall I begin?

Let’s start with the most obvious: the natural beauty that surrounds RSM. There are so many canyons, trails, and parks that are perfectly maintained, yet blend in naturally with Mother Nature’s backdrop.

Or how about the famous Lago Santa Margarita? Where we can walk our dogs, or we can work out, or watch ducks and turtles swim. The list goes on. It must be one of the most photographed spots in our town, and it’s no wonder. From sunrise to sunset, there’s no denying how breathtaking this local favorite spot is to see and experience.

But, really, what makes RSM my home is COMMUNITY: the people. Yes, this word gets thrown around quite a bit, but trust me when I tell you, I know many friends and family who only wish they had the sense of community we have here in RSM.

We live in the kind of community where a stranger helps another stranger look for a lost dog, or a neighbor invites a neighbor over for dinner. It’s these simple acts of human kindness that remain alive and well here in RSM.

And there is no better way to get a sense of what our town is all about than when you go to one of our local events. My summers are not summers without going to our concerts in the park or our outdoor movie events.

Each Sunday, my friends and I will pack up our blankets and chairs and go to Central Park to reserve our special spot. We love getting together with all our friends, neighbors and other community members to relax, dance and enjoy just being in the moment. We’ll dance until the last song has been sung and the last glimpse of the sun can be seen. This is our summer.

And summer just wouldn’t be the same for me without packing up the family to watch a movie in the park. With blankets, dinner and child in tow, there’s something nostalgic and magical about watching a movie while cuddled up under the night sky.

There are just so many events to share but since we’re in the middle of summer, these two events come to the forefront of my mind.

So, this is my community. My RSM.  To live here is to love it. Leave your pretensions at the door. Kick off your shoes, throw your hair in a bun and just have fun.
