This year’s Star Spangled Spectacular was a fantastic success! Over 10,000 community members gathered around the Lago Santa Margarita to celebrate the American spirit in true SAMLARC style.
The Bike & Trike Parade kicked off at 10:00 a.m. with Uncle Sam in the lead! There were so many participants this year, the parade-goers stretched around half the perimeter of the Lake – that’s over half a mile! The Parade route wound its way around the Lake from the Beach Club to the Amphitheater, where the participants were greeted with refreshing patriotic popsicles.
The Lakeshore Park sported thousands of blankets as community members reserved spots along the Lake for Independence Day. Blankets were set out as early as 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 3rd! Picnickers enjoyed spending time with friends and families. In the evening, the Bridge Church brought out its best performers to provide great music from the Amphitheater. Screamin’ Ice Cream set up shop next to the Amphitheater in their signature ice cream school bus, and even Uncle Sam couldn’t stay away!
There were goodies galore at the Star Spangled Spectacular! Uncle Sam made his way around the Lakeshore Park in the afternoon to give out flags to the youngest members of our community. He and his helpers also passed out over 20,000 glowsticks to enhance the Lake’s fireworks glow. Inside the Beach Club, families enjoyed the warm sand and refreshing waters of the Lagoon, and DJ Jerry played fun water games with children throughout the afternoon. A few folks even took the brand new pedal boats out for a spin! Throughout the day, members of the SAMLARC Board of Directors launched t-shirts to the community – and a few of the Directors even dared to launch shirts from the middle of the Lake!
As dusk fell, the crowd was awestruck by beautiful sounds of this year’s Voice of SAMLARC winners. Kelli-Rae Coughlin’s rendition of America the Beautiful left the community breathless, Delaney Miller performed God Bless America with heart and soul, and Jamella Perkins (a formidable contestant on The Voice) gave a performance that evoked the patriotic spirit of our community. As the last note of Perkins’ Star Spangled Banner died away, the fireworks began with a bang!
This year’s fireworks show was absolutely mesmerizing. More than 8,000 fireworks over the Lake in grand style. This year’s show was over 20 minutes long! The fireworks lit up the night sky and patriotic music reminded us that we truly live in the land of the free.
Thank you to the SAMLARC Board of Directors, community members, and SAMLARC partners for making the Star Spangled Spectacular an amazing event!! We’re thrilled to see what’s in store for the rest of the summer – starting with the July 20th Screen on the Green!
