SAMLARC Pool Temperatures

SAMLARC prides itself on offering Members many spaces to play and exercise, including its four Junior Olympic-sized pools. When pool usage is at its highest – typically from mid-May through late September – all four pools are heated. During the off seasons when the weather begins to cool and pool usage decreases, two pools remain heated and the other two heat and cool naturally.

When natural gas prices skyrocketed this past winter, the cost of heating the Altisima and Arroyo Vista pools (the two heated pools this winter season) vastly exceeded the budgeted amounts. In order to balance the unexpected expense while continuing to serve Members, the Board of Directors elected to reduce pool temperatures to 80 degrees. The operational shift took place in late February, with the understanding that operations would evolve as market conditions and weather improved.

After careful evaluation of the natural gas market, comparisons with other HOA community operations, and anticipated impact to SAMLARC, the Board determined that beginning on May 1, the Altisima and Arroyo Vista pool heaters will be set to 82 degrees.  Monte Vista and Solana pools will also be heated to 82 degrees beginning May 15. All four pools will be heated through the end of the summer season, after which the Monte Vista and Solana pools will remain heated for the winter season.

The Board of Directors appreciates your patience and understanding as SAMLARC works to fulfill its financial and operational commitments to the community. For questions regarding pool operations, contact the SAMLARC Beach Club at 949.858.1390.
