- Connections During Crisis: Airport Fi...
On Monday, September 9, a vegetation fire broke out in Trabuco Canyon. Over the past 4 days, the fire has spread to more than 20,000 acres, with first responders working vigilantly to fight the flames and protect the homes in surrounding areas. As of September 13
First responders are trained to manage crises in real-time, with specialized knowledge in logistics, science, and providing care. We applaud the tireless efforts of these men and women as well as their families who support their work.
The Rancho Santa Margarita community has leapt into action on the home front. Whether keeping an eye out for stray pets, bringing cases of water to OCFA headquarters, or simply ensuring that RSM’s streets stay clear for emergency vehicles – our town’s compassion and practical helpfulness has been demonstrated in full force.
If you are looking for a way to support local families and first responders during this time, we invite you to consider the following avenues:
- Become a Temporary Pet Parent – OC Animal Care is housing domestic animals for fire evacuees, and is seeking immediate foster homes for a minimum of 2 weeks in order to make space in the kennels for incoming, evacuated pets. Email ocacprograms@occr.ocgov.com for more information.
- Donate Drinks to OCFA: Cases of water, Gatorade, and sports drinks can be dropped off at the OCFA Headquarters in Irvine.
- Check on Your Neighbors – Consider making a quick and reassuring visit to neighbors you know to make sure they feel connected to the community.
- Donate Funds to RSM Cares, Rancho Santa Margarita’s 501(c)3 with commitments to serving the immediate community. In addition to its ongoing programs like the Food Pantry, RSM Cares is providing basic hygiene supplies to evacuees. Donations of new soap, shampoo, towels, etc. are welcomed. Call 949-680-0490 for information on drop-off locations.
- Join the Red Cross’ Volunteer Team: 90% of the Red Cross workforce are volunteers who undergo specialized training to serve in the community. While the Bell Tower emergency care center is currently staffed with trained volunteers, consider joining the Red Cross to provide much-needed support to future emergency care centers.
The SAMLARC Board of Directors shares continued good thoughts and well-wishes to those impacted by this fire.
