How can I join the Bike & Trike Parade?

The Parade will set out from the Beach Club at 10:00 a.m., with Uncle Sam leading the way! Bring your bike, trike, scooter, or favorite four-legged furry pal – and don’t forget to dress up in your best Fourth of July style. The parade will wind its way around the Lake, from the Beach Club to the Amphitheater (where delicious popsicles will be waiting just for you)! You don’t need to register for the Parade: we look forward to seeing you then!

When will the fireworks show start?

At 9:00 p.m.! Practice your ooh’s and ah’s, because this year’s fireworks show will be even more spectacular than in years past. SAMLARC has partnered with the Orange County Fire Authority and pyrotechnic engineers to create a robust Independence Day show for the community to enjoy.

SAMLARC is also working closely with landscaping vendors to make the show a fabulous success! Prior to the Star Spangled Spectacular, SAMLARC and landscaping staff will deploy the Event Irrigation Shutdown Procedure. This procedure will ensure all pyrotechnic equipment is prepared for an amazing show!

I have more questions.

Please contact Marley Sansom, Lifestyle and Beach Club Director at 919-709-0013 or marley.sansom@fsresidential.com

Where should I park?

The Star Spangled Spectacular draws thousands of guests each year. We encourage you to carpool with friends and family or use a rideshare service to streamline your travel. Limited street parking is available. Please note: The Beach Club and Lakeshore Amphitheater parking lots will be closed, as these spaces will be used by event vendors, personnel, and emergency services.

Beach Club Lagoon

Will the kayaks and water trikes be available to rent?

Members with Beach Club access will be able to rent kayaks and water trikes from 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Rentals are cash only. To ensure safe preparation for the evening’s fireworks show, all watercraft must remain within the buoy lines placed on the Lake.

I have tickets to the Beach Club on July 4th. What should I expect?

The Beach Club will open at 8:00 a.m. on July 4th. Members with tickets will check in at the gate with their email confirmations and SAMLARC cards, and receive wristbands for each ticket. These wristbands allow you to come and go throughout the day. Any unclaimed tickets will be released at 3:00 p.m. to waiting guests on a first-come, first-served basis. All coolers and bags will be inspected prior to entry.

Members who have received tables for this year's table lottery will be escorted to their reserved tables. Any reserved tables that have not been claimed by 12:00 p.m. will be released on a first-come, first-served basis. We advise arriving early if you would like to claim an un-reserved area for use by your party at 12:00 p.m.

The Lagoon will be open for swimming from 8:00 a.m. through 7:00 p.m. (water clarity conditions permitting). At the top of every hour, lifeguards will facilitate a safety break: an opportunity for all swimmers to take a break and reapply that sunscreen. Safety breaks also allow the sand in the Lagoon to settle, resulting in critical water clarity and safety.

Games and activities will begin at 12:00 p.m. and watercraft rentals (including paddle boats, water trikes, and kayaks) will be available from 11:00 a.m. through 4:30 p.m.

Please be aware that in order to watch the fireworks from within the Beach Club, you will need to be in the facility before 8:30 p.m. To maintain safety prior to the fireworks show, individuals will not be permitted to enter (or re-enter) after 8:30 p.m. Please be sure your party is within the Beach Club gates prior to this time.

Will the Beach Club be open during the week of July 4th?

The Beach Club Facility and Office will be CLOSED on July 3 to prepare for the Star Spangled Spectacular on July 4. The Beach Club will re-open to Members and guests at 12:00 p.m. on July 5.

What should I bring with me to the Beach Club?

Please remember to bring sunscreen and plenty of water! All food and beverages should be in plastic or aluminum containers (don’t forget to transfer your salsa and pickles into leak-proof plastic containers). Bring cash for kayak, water trike, and Surrey Bike rentals (available to ticketed Members at the Beach Club). The Beach Club Bistro accepts cash and credit cards. In order to provide the best experience possible for all SAMLARC community members, SAMLARC kindly asks that you refrain from bringing the following items with you to the Star Spangled Spectacular:

  • Cigarettes or other smoking devices

  • Glass containers. This includes, but is not limited to: drinking glasses, bowls, beer/soda bottles, pitchers, etc.

  • Portable barbecues and/or propane tanks. Community barbecues will be available in the Beach Club for ticketed Members.

  • Skates and skateboards. Bicycles and tricycles may be parked at the bike racks provided around the Lake and outside of the Beach Club

  • Play equipment (e.g. bounce houses)

  • Firearms, firecrackers, rockets, torpedoes, or other types of explosives; guns, pistols, slingshots, bows and arrows, or any other object capable of propelling a projectile

  • Decorations that require staples, tacks, and/or tape. Only string or ribbon may be used to hang or attach decorations. Additionally, Southern California Edison strongly suggests weighting down all metallic balloons to reduce the risk of injury and power outages

  • Beach toys (noodles, kickboards, mermaid tails, etc.). No flotation devices other than Coast Guard approved life vests are permitted.

What are the available food options? Can I bring a BBQ?

The Beach Club Bistro will offer sweet and savory fare at the Beach Club for purchase. Screamin’ Ice Cream will sell frozen treats at the Amphitheater in the afternoon.

To reduce the possibility of a fire or injury, BBQ’s and/or other grilling equipment are not permitted at either the Beach Club or Lakeshore Park. Community barbecues will be available in the Beach Club for ticketed Members.

Rules & Safety

Can I bring my dog or cat to the Star Spangled Spectacular?

Leashed pets are welcome to join the Bike & Trike Parade! While animals are not permitted within the Beach Club (with the exception of documented service animals), your pet can join in the fun around the Lakeshore; please make sure that they are on their leash at all times. Animals tend to fear the loud noises from the fireworks, so we ask that all pet parents err on the side of caution when bringing pets to the Lakeshore that evening.

What protective services are available?

We hope the community enjoys a safe day full of fun and friendship! SAMLARC partners with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Orange County Fire Authority, and licensed EMT services to keep the Star Spangled Spectacular safe for the community. If you find yourself or a loved one in need of assistance, please reach out to the nearest SAMLARC Staff member or community officer. Inconsiderate behavior (including profane language, gambling, and fighting) at this family-friendly celebration may result in removal from the event.

Can I swim in the Lake?

California law prohibits swimming in man-made recreational lakes where the water is not recirculated. You may also notice that the color of the water is less than appealing to potential swimmers. The upcoming Lake Ecosystem Repair Project will address the Lake’s recent golden algae bloom (resulting in fish kills and green water), and restore the Lake to a healthy, clean environment.

Can I bring my own fireworks?

Don’t worry, we’ve got a spectacular show planned for you! In order to create a safe community environment, all other fireworks are banned, per City of Rancho Santa Margarita ordinances (including “safe and sane” fireworks). SAMLARC obtains permits from the City of Rancho Santa Margarita and works closely with a dedicated, on-site liaison from the Orange County Fire Authority to conduct each year's fireworks display. After sunset, cozy up and watch the Star Spangled Spectacular fireworks show!

Can I fly my drone around the Lake or Beach Club?

Drone photos can be amazing! However, in order to maintain a clear airspace for the duration of the event, drones, hobby planes, and other aircraft are not permitted. This will create clear skies for the evening’s spectacular fireworks show!

Please note: The fireworks show may be cancelled by the Orange County Fire Authority if drones are present.

Can we celebrate July 4th at the Lake?

SAMLARC Members are invited to enjoy Independence Day at the Lake! Bring a picnic dinner, enjoy the summer afternoon, and stroll by the Lakeshore Amphitheater to enjoy live, patriotic musical performances by volunteers from The Bridge Church! Beginning at 6:00 a.m. on July 3, you may reserve space on the grass along the Lake with blankets. Blankets or other materials used to reserve space prior to this time will be removed (but may be retrieved at the Beach Club Office). Plastic tarps and stakes are not allowed at any time and will be removed, as they are hazardous to guests and kill the grass around the Lake. Blankets must be placed on grass areas and must not obstruct walkways or they will be removed and held at the Beach Club Office for pickup. Portable restrooms will be available at the Amphitheater, in the Beach Club parking lot, and near the Lake flagpole. Beach Club facility restrooms will be available to ticketed guests only.
