Restore the Shore: October 11
The Lago Santa Margarita was designed to be a space where the community can walk, fish, cycle, and connect with each other! We invite you to join us in our efforts to keep the Lake safe and beautiful. On October 11, SAMLARC is partnering with Canyon Wildlife Initiative for Restore the Shore - a Lakeshore cleanup day! By reducing the amount of litter at the Lake, we can help protect wildlife and keep the Lakeshore beautiful.
Join SAMLARC & Canyon Wildlife Initiative on Saturday, October 11, 10:30–12:30, starting at the Beach Club. SAMLARC will provide gloves, grabbers, bags, and donuts to kick off the fun! Please register here.
This Restore the Shore Day is just one way that SAMLARC is adjusting its year-round operations at the Lake. We invite you to stay up-to-date on other operational changes over the next few months, and appreciate your patience as we educate the community on best fishing practices, wildlife interaction, and more. Many thanks to Canyon Wildlife Initiative for sharing their ecological stewardship insights as we prepare for this new chapter in SAMLARC’s story!
The Lago Santa Margarita lies in the shadow of the Saddleback Mountains. The Lake covers 11.5 surface acres and holds 31 million gallons of water - and its 1.1-mile circumference offers beautiful sights while you stroll! The Lake offers five fitness stations, multiple fishing points, and a peaceful amphitheater for relaxation. The Lago Santa Margarita is the stage for several special events throughout the year, including the July 4th Star Spangled Spectacular and the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting, and hosts summer kayak and pedal boat rentals for waterside recreation.
The Lake was intentionally built to strengthen neighborly relationships while preserving the intimacy of a nature walk. The winding curves of the Lakeshore enhance the visual expanse of the water, but the short distance across the main body of the Lake welcomes visitors to wave to friends on the other shore. The walking path around the Lake spans an easy 1.1 miles, touching the steps of the Mercado Del Lago shopping center along the way. As seasons change, so do the colors framing the Lake: a variety of trees, shrubs, and ground cover have been curated to bloom in each season. The butterfly garden, pine grove, amphitheater, and meditation point are peaceful places to pause and watch nature at work. The region’s temperate weather makes daily strolls worthwhile, and the paths lend themselves well to non-motorized vehicles and dog walking. Recreational, catch-and-release fishing is welcome—the Lake is stocked twice per year when water quality allows.
SAMLARC’s active lake management plan includes regular water testing, botanical islands that mitigate nutrient build-up, daily skimming, an aeration system, and professional service providers. Preserving the Lake's ecosystem is imperative, not only for the functionality of the Lake, but for the health of its wildlife. Your partnership is important in protecting the wildlife!
