Tips and Tricks to Stay Healthy During the Holiday Season

We all know that the “true” holiday season starts at Halloween (with all of our kids’ leftover candy) and doesn’t end until after the start of the New Year. We tend to become busy with shopping, cooking, and holiday parties which makes it easy to lose sight of our health.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed and unsure about how to maintain a healthy balance, take a look at these 4 simple tricks designed to keep you healthy and happy this holiday season!

  1. Eat foods with nutrients that provide energy and keep your body healthy. Some of these foods include legumes, nuts, seeds, and proteins. Make sure that your diet also maintains a healthy level of vegetables. With the days shortening and your body’s internal clock changing, avoid eating too much and too late in the evening. Allow your body plenty of time to digest before you go to bed.

  2. Exercise is more critical this time of the year than any other season. Maintaining aerobic activity helps keep your immune system strong, preventing you from catching common illnesses. With the weather cooling, you are also more apt to experience aches and pains. Having a good stretching routine will reduce these issues and make you feel more relaxed.

  3. Providing your body with adequate sleep and minimal stress are important aspects of staying healthy during the holidays. Make sure you leave the mall before closing time so you can unwind and get to bed at a decent hour. Enjoying the company of friends and family members away from the hustle and bustle can similarly provide emotional nutrients your body craves.

  4. If you are planning to travel, take water and snacks with you. Ample water allows you to maintain proper hydration, and snacks prevent you from becoming too hungry and over-eating to compensate. Staying hydrated allows the body to remove toxins at the cellular level, preventing your immune system from becoming compromised. Before opening snacks or water bottles, use a natural hand sanitizer to prevent those germs from taking charge!

These four small tips will go a long way to keep you healthy and HAPPY during this holiday season!
