On Saturday, February 3rd, SAMLARC hosted the very first Future Gardeners of SAMLARC Workshop of 2018 at the Lago Santa Margarita Beach Club! Kathie Wickham, a California Certified Nursery Professional and SAMLARC resident, led our future gardeners in creating a fun terrarium and the planting of beautiful spring flowers!
Each gardener was given a terrarium, brightly colored rocks, a little plastic animal and a plant. Kathie provided a helpful tutorial and visited each table to assist the children and adults that were participating. Kathie encouraged each gardener to place their terrarium in a sunny spot and to water it every week.
To make your own terrarium, follow these simple steps!
Take a clear plastic container with a lid. This will be your terrarium! The container should be approximately 10” high.
Add approximately 4 inches of soil to the bottom of your terrarium.
Plant a small succulent in the center of the soil of your terrarium.
Sprinkle a layer of brightly colored rocks on top of the soil of your terrarium. You can also add a small plastic animal on top of the colored rocks!
When you are finished, be sure to water your plant regularly so it can grow!
Place the lid on your terrarium, and you can then decorate the outside of your terrarium and the top of the lid with some fun colorful stickers.
Thank you to everyone who participated in this fun-filled Future Gardeners of SAMLARC Workshop experience! Be sure to mark your calendars for the next Future Gardeners Workshop on April 28!
