On Saturday, November 10, SAMLARC hosted a Homeowner Landscape Planning Workshop to provide resources to residents who are looking to enhance the look of their home! Attendees gained a wealth of knowledge from landscape professionals that included an Architectural Consultant, and California Certified Nursery Professionals. Along with the professionals, our own SAMLARC team member, Alex Kuhlmann discussed landscaping resources available to homeowners through the Santa Margarita Water District.
Within the Mediterranean landscape profile, there are beautiful styles which derive from European countries such as Greece, Italy, France and Spain. This workshop focused on the Mediterranean style and how homeowners can create a personalized landscape while maintaining the community aesthetic of SAMLARC homes.
Attendees learned about landscape design from Michael Ledbetter, a landscape architect consultant. Michael emphasized the importance of properly submitting landscape design plans and how it can help homeowners gain an idea of what they want their project to look like. Michael also gave examples of different color palettes from the European styles that can enhance the look of homes by incorporating details such as fountains, columns, and mosaics.
Alex Kuhlmann, a SAMLARC team member, discussed the many ways to be water wise while maintaining a beautiful landscape. Some tips that Alex spoke on were the importance of creating a design concept, the bloom time of various plants, and utilizing hydrozoning to group plants that will need similar care. The Santa Margarita Water District offers helpful gardening and landscaping resources for homeowners online.
Kathy Moine and Kathie Wickham from California Certified Nursery Professionals, presented a slideshow of many exquisite plants from the Mediterranean region. This presentation showcased the wide range of options included within the SAMLARC landscape guidelines.
