The SAMLARC Board of Directors held their monthly meeting on the evening of August 25, 2020. Due to recent declarations from the State of California and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control, the physical assembly of the Board of Directors meetings was not feasible to accomplish while maintaining proper social distancing measures. In order to protect public health while continuing to support SAMLARC operations, the Board of Directors held a virtual Open Session Board of Directors meeting on Tuesday, August 25, 2020. The Board of Directors took action on the following items during the August 25, 2020 Open Session Meeting.
As recommended by the Lago Santa Margarita Committee and the Community Lifestyle Committee, approved a week-long fishing contest, to be held September 25 through October 4, 2020. The contest will allow Members and their families to enjoy recreational fishing while maintaining social distancing, with prizes for longest, heaviest, smallest, and most fish caught. The fishing contest will replace the previously scheduled Fishing Derby, which cannot be held due to COVID-19 gathering restrictions
As recommended by the Community Lifestyle Committee, approved a virtual wine tasting event and charcuterie board competition, to be held October 10, 2020. The event will include four (4) bottles of wine, a sommelier-led wine educational session, and an opportunity for Members to participate in a charcuterie board competition. This virtual event will replace the previously scheduled Wine & Cheese event, which cannot be held due to COVID-19 gathering restrictions.
As recommended by the Community Lifestyle Committee, approved a charter for a new SAMLARC Virtual Book Club. The Club is anticipated to meeting in fall 2020. Additional information will be published at SAMLARC.org as it develops.
Approved the integration of the SAMLARC Connect Resident Portal into SAMLARC’s website. The Portal allows homeowners to easily access and download forms (such as home improvement and gate access card applications), view Association documents (such as Board Meeting packets and financials), submit architectural modification applications, submit maintenance requests, pay assessments and view the payment history, as well as receive answer to frequently asked questions. The Portal is anticipated to launch in September 2020.
Reviewed the drafted 2021 Reserve Study as prepared by professional reserve analyst firm Barrera & Company. The Reserve Study inventories the conditions of SAMLARC’s physical assets, and recommends future funding allocations to appropriately preserve, maintain, and enhance the amenities
Based on current recommendations related to COVID-19 and in-person gatherings, deferred the 2021 Strategic Planning Workshop (previously scheduled for September 1, 2020) to a date to be determined in May 2021.
As recommended by the Election Committee, approved revisions to the SAMLARC Election Policies & Guidelines Manual. The revised Election Policies & Guidelines Manual is available to view at SAMLARC.org/election and through the SAMLARC Portal.

As recommended by the LFEC, approved the construction of a Little Library on the east side of the Lakeshore. The Library will be constructed by local Girl Scout Troop 9670.
As recommended by the Election Committee, approved the 2021 Election date of February 25, 20201. In addition, the deadline for receiving Board of Directors Applications for Nomination is October 19, 2020; the deadline for nominations is November 17, 2020.
As recommended by the LFEC, approval of a work authorization to replenish playground sand at nine (9) SAMLARC parks. The project is anticipated to begin in September 2020, barring unforeseen delays. More information will be published at SAMLARC.org.
Approved a variety of work authorizations for the ongoing maintenance of SAMLARC assets, as well as contracts with professional service providers to execute maintenance.
