SAMLARC cares about the safety of the community, particularly when it comes to families and kids. In order to promote fun and safe environments where kids can play, the SAMLARC Board of Directors decided to improve the playground facilities by resurfacing the playground areas.
For this project to take place, the SAMLARC Board of Directors contracted with landscape architect Richard Fischer Associates to provide drawings regarding the design of the improvements. The overall goal of this project is to cover all existing fall zone heights four feet or greater with pour in place rubber surfacing material and any fall zone heights under four feet with sand. This will make the playgrounds even safer for children who play on the equipment.
The project will also replace all existing rubber surfacing in the playgrounds with code compliant rubber surfaces. Even with the new rubber resurfacing, there will be as much sand for children’s play as possible.
The playground rubber resurfacing project began on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Vista Verde Park Playground. Altogether, the total square footage for the newly refurbished rubber areas is 9,311 square feet.
The playground closures, which are subject to inclement weather and any unforeseen delays, are as follows:
• Vista Verde Playground – Wednesday, November 1 – Monday, November 13 • Monte Vista Playground – Monday, November 6 – Wednesday, November 22 • Central Park East – Wednesday, November 8– Wednesday, November 22 • Tijeras Creek Playground – Tuesday, November 14 – Monday, November 27
Please check the SAMLARC website for regular updates regarding the scheduled closures. Each playground will be closed during the construction period.
