Committee Highlights: LFEC

SAMLARC’s Landscape & Facilities Enhancement Committee (LFEC) is chartered to review current and potential community projects that maintain and improve SAMLARC’s assets and property values. The Committee is comprised of Director Paul Persiani (Committee Chair), Board President Judy Vasquez, and Director Charles Villafana. The Committee met on March 16, 2021 to discuss projects and initiatives related to the ongoing maintenance and enhancement of the SAMLARC community. The Committee took action on the following items at the March meeting:

Reviewed the 2021 Capital & Reserve Project Schedule. This schedule outlines projects to be completed over the course of the year. Over the course of March through May, and pending Board approval, SAMLARC anticipates executing the following projects:

  • Resurfacing of the basketball courts at Altisima, Mesa Linda, Monte Vista, Solana, and Trabuco Mesa Parks

  • Painting and repairs at Arroyo Vista Park and Pool, including review of the trellises and pool gate

Recommended that the Board of Directors approve a work authorization for replacement of the Estrella Vista Park playground slide to preserve the safety and durability of the structure. If approved, the installation of the new slide will ensure that children continue to enjoy well-maintained playground equipment that meets industry safety standards.

Recommended that the Board of Directors approve a pool deck overlay and mastic project at the Arroyo Vista Pool. This project provides structural and aesthetic protection of the concrete decking, maintaining visitor safety and avoiding costly repairs in the future.

Received an update from SAMLARC’s landscape consultant, Mosaic Consulting, regarding the landscape conditions. Thanks to SAMLARC’s refocused efforts on the landscape as a living asset, the parks, fields, greenbelts, trails, and medians throughout SAMLARC’s property are receiving appropriate services for their age and scale.

The LFEC is a crucial component in guiding the Corporation’s investment in its physical assets. The LFEC’s recommendations will be presented to the Board of Directors at upcoming Board Meetings. When approved projects begin, community members are welcome to visit for updates.
